2016 Community Pride
The city of Southfield recognized the beautification efforts of residents, neighborhoods, condominiums, apartments, schools and businesses on October 17 at the annual Community Pride Awards program. The program was expanded in 2016 to include several new categories including ‘Businesses – Small’, ‘Businesses – Large’ and ‘Well-Manicured/Maintained Residential Properties’ which is geared for homeowners that maintain curb appeal on a budget.
The program’s goal is to give recognition to those that have gone the extra mile in their respective beautification efforts. Over 70 winners were selected from over 160 nominations through an intensive judging process. This year’s judges included: Harvey Goldstein, Woodvale Condominiums; Gloria Hardy, Ravines Civic Association; Yvonne Jones, Mt. Vernon Civic Association; Harmen Gunther, Cranbrook Neighborhood Association; Henry Meadows, Stonycroft Improvement Association; and Jonathan Adams, Southfield Parks and Garden Club. All winners were awarded certificates of recognition by Mayor Siver and Council President Frasier, and DVD’s of the program, and Community Pride Awards Winner lawn signs to acknowledge their sustained efforts in keeping Southfield beautiful. The annual program is sponsored by Southfield’s Neighborhood and Information Center (a division of Community Relations) and the Southfield Parks and Garden Club.
