Who We Are |
This is an all volunteer charitable program to feed the poor. Nobody gets paid for anything, and no harvest goes anywhere but to Forgotten Harvest or directly to area soup kitchens and food pantries. We do things as organically as possible and with deep respect for the soil and living things above and below ground. We use public donations to pay for infrastructure, like fencing and irrigation, and to buy seeds to grow plants for the spring planting. We are non-denominational, and some of us are older, some of us are younger. We don't discriminate about anything. The feeling we get by working the soil to help others is hard to describe, but it does usually leave us with smiles on our faces and warmth in our hearts. We have given advice and aid to several nearby charitable gardens.

Our History |
The Southfield Parks and Garden Club had been planning with the Parks and Recreation department for years to put a community farm on one city park property after another. When in 2007 the city made it plain they didn't want us on any city park property, the story was carried in the local newspapers. One of the council members at the Southfield Emmanuel Lutheran Church saw the article, and saw a link between the Club's efforts and the Church's outreach programs. A landlocked one acre parcel had been unused next to the Church's parking lot, and they reached out to the Club to see if the space could be appropriate for the Farm. In the spring of 2008 ground was broken for the Farm, and a five year plan was started for full utilization of the space. The Club leases the area from the Church, and now runs an all-volunteer charitable program to feed the hungry.
